They say confidence is the best makeup a girl can wear, and quite frankly, we couldn’t agree more! When you feel good, you look good, but that’s far from a coincidence. Your exterior is usually a reflection of your interior… think about it. You know those inevitable off days we all have? Maybe you woke up on the wrong side of the bed, you might have a bout of PMS or you might be feeling a little sick and run down. Those are the days you generally put in minimal effort in favor of maximum comfort, you are probably sitting at your desk a little slumped over and don’t have the motivation to do a whole lot. And then there are the days when you wake up feeling like Beyonce. You probably put in a bit more effort getting ready without even realizing – you might subconsciously decide to curl your hair, rock a bold lip and you’ll probably stand a little bit taller.
So how do you put the confidence pep back in your step on those inevitable off days we all have? Below are four of our favorite fail proof ways!
1. Stand up straight
It sounds like a no brainer, but standing in ‘power pose’ is a fail proof confidence trick that’s actually been scientifically proven. The simple act of standing with your arms overhead in a V shape has actually been proven to boost your confidence. Check out this Ted Talk.
2. Spray some of your favorite perfume
Did you know that your olfactory system (your sense of smell) is directly related to your limbic system (your memories and emotion). We emotionally connect to fragrances – so when you put on a perfume that you have positive associations with – like a fun night out with the girls or a date with your special someone, it can instantly make you feel happier and more confident.
3. Turn on a power playlist
Whether you’re gearing up for a work presentation, getting ready for a big event or just need to change your mood, never underestimate the the power of a song. What’s more? Songs with a heavy-bass promote more feelings of power.
4. Smile
While again, this one sounds like a no brainer, smiling can instantly dismiss feelings of stress by tricking your brain into thinking you’re happy. Smiling can trigger a chemical release in the brain including dopamine and serotonin, which increase feelings of happiness and decrease feelings of stress.
